About

This is the main blog for Matt Jukes since early 2008 – I was previously blogging at http://jukes.jiscinvolve.org amongst other places.

The two main topics that this blog tends to swing back to are learning 2.0, in particular start-ups in that space and how the social web and movements like Barcamps are disrupting the world of conferences and events.

Currently I am working for Jiva Technology, a startup in Bristol that is building a suite of learning focused web applications.  Alongside this I also continue to give advice around social web topics to various people in higher education and the public sector.

[Update: I am about to leave Jiva and start working at Becta as Head of e-Communications 17/06/09]

I was also the main organiser for the Bettr Unconference for people interested in education web start-ups and am planning an event based on the Interesting format (West of Interesting) in Bristol later in 2009.

I am frequently on Twitter – http://twitter.com/jukesie and also have a Tumblr tumblog at http://quickpint.org where I bookmark any links that I find interesting.

I am a proud Bristolian which comes with its own baggage – not least the stress of supporting Bristol Rovers, the boredom of watching Bristol Rugby, the fact that people fall for Baths twee image and of course the fact that I sound like Blackbeard the Pirate!

The header is “Umbrella Day” http://www.flickr.com/photos/gregory_bastien/2787215808/ which I found while searching Compfight (great tool) for Rain..

Pete has thanked you for writing about us on your blog – your comments were well made, and they have prompted us to go back and review how bits of the website interact. We seem to be picking up Tutors (23 have signed up so far), despite not really marketing or appearing anywhere on Google – hopefully the website has real utility.

There are two ex-Monks Parkers on board here at Beanbag, you’ll be glad to hear – me and Kevin Gibson. We’ll be out stealing cars tonight, sniffing glue and drinking Natch – if you want to meet up. Either that our meet up for a latte some time.

We need to start some more blogging about the website, and were wondering if there were any that you would recommend.

    Best Wishes
    Jon (07917162584)
